Larka started off as just a weekend puppy camper while her breeder was out of town, but within minutes I knew I couldn’t give this girl up. She hypnotized me with those blue eyes and was here to stay. She is a get up and try anything type of dog, we have dabbled in conformation, herding, agility, rally, barn hunt, lure coursing, and soon to be nose work together. Her drive is medium/high, she will try anything for a piece of food.

In AKC: Larka has earned her HT, PT, and HSAs title. An HT or Herding Tested is AKCs first herding title. It consists of the dog and handler showing the ability to move stock, usually 3 head of sheep, multiple directions in a calm controlled manner. PT or Pre Trial Tested is the next level getting ready for started. It consists of a dog and handler moving a group of 3 sheep through a set of obstacles, in this case fence panels, and ending with a re pen of the sheep. HSAs or Herding Started Arena sheep, is AKCs first level of arena trial titles. It consists of a dog and handler moving 3-5 head of sheep across a course of 5 obstacles and an exhaust. You must receive 3 qualifying scores for the title. Larka is multiple High in Trial/High in Trial Cardigan winning.

In AHBA: Larka has earned her JHD and HTAD2-s title. A JHD is the AHBA equivalent of a PT, requiring the same amount of training and control. For the JHD, you work either 3 head of sheep or goats, Larka titled under goats. HTAD2 stands for Herding Trial Arena Dog level 2 and is equivalent to an intermediate course title in AKC. The ‘s’ denotes the type of stock, in this case sheep.

Talk Herdy to Me

We all begin somewhere. Larka started training on stock in late Jan 2019. She has since been introduced to all trial stock including goats, sheep, ducks, geese, and cattle. She has received titles while working sheep and goats.
